Tavistock is a township located in Oxford County, with a current population of almost 7,000 residents. First founded in 1848 by Captain Henry Eckstein, the town served as a gathering place for those who worked the surrounding farmlands. Quickly, Tavistock had its own taverns, blacksmith shops, flour mills, general stores and other local shops.
Today, Tavistock holds on to its roots as a German and Scottish community, and its heritage is clearly visible in the town’s annual events like the Sauerkraut Supper, World Crokinole Championship, and the Southwestern Ontario Open Fiddle and Stepdance Competition. All year round residents can enjoy the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre, Queen’s Park, Tavistock Optimist Park and the Tavistock Public Library.
There is always plenty of variety in Tavistock real estate for sale. Many new home developments have sprung up in the community, offering many wonderful options for buyers looking for two storey homes, bungalows or townhomes. You’ll also find a number of country homes with large lots, mature trees and lots of privacy. Nearer to the town’s centre, you can find historic Victorian-style homes filled with character and charm.
