Shakespeare is a small village located within the municipality of Perth East in Perth County, and is east of the popular community of Stratford. Formerly known as Bell’s Corner, the village of Shakespeare got its name in 1852 when Alexander Mitchell suggested that the town be named after the famous playwright. Today, the area holds on to its tight-knit community feeling, and is home to just 750 residents.
In Shakespeare, residents enjoy a special town holiday each year called Field Day. This celebration features a parade, fish fry, and many events for children and adults alike. All year around, residents take advantage of the many amenities found in downtown Shakespeare, including antique shops, cafes, restaurants and much more.
From beautiful Victorian homes to modern builds, commercial properties, hobby farms and vacant lots, Shakespeare has a range of properties that will suit almost any buyer. Homes in the area are very affordable and are an easy drive from the larger cities of Stratford, Kitchener and Waterloo.
